What are apostille and legalisation used for?
These formalities make a document suitable for use abroad by certifying the signature, the capacity of the signatory and the official seal. They do not verify the content of the document.
How do I know whether my document needs an apostille or legalisation?
It depends on the destination country and on any applicable exemption: an apostille generally applies under the Hague Convention, while legalisation may be required in other cases. We check the relevant formality when reviewing your order.
Which documents are accepted?
Civil-status records, court decisions, notarial deeds, diplomas, administrative certificates and eligible electronically signed documents may be accepted. We check eligibility before processing.
How do I have my document apostilled?
1) Upload the document, including both sides and any translation. 2) Place your order online. 3) Confirm payment. We then review the file and manage submission and collection with the competent authority.
How long does it take?
The standard official timeframe is three business days once the file is complete and the required information is available in the national public-signature database. File review, postal delivery and the workload of the competent centre may add time. An official 24-hour option exists for eligible applications.
How do I apostille a paper document?
The document must be the original or, where accepted, a certified copy. After ordering, you send the required document by tracked post and we manage the administrative steps.
How do I apostille a digital document?
The file must meet the authority’s requirements for an official or qualified electronic signature. You upload it through the platform and receive the issued apostille after processing.
Where are the apostille and legalisation centres?
Since 1 May 2025, apostilles have been issued by 15 competent regional or interdepartmental notarial councils and chambers instead of the Courts of Appeal. Since 1 September 2025, these centres also issue legalisations.
Does an apostille replace legalisation?
It replaces legalisation where the Hague Apostille Convention applies. Otherwise, legalisation or an exemption may apply, depending on the destination country and document.
Is the content of the document checked?
No. An apostille confirms the authenticity of the signature, the capacity of the signatory and the seal or stamp on the document; it does not certify the content.
Are apostilles electronic?
The notarial service normally issues apostilles and legalisations electronically. A paper version may still be issued when electronic delivery is materially impossible.
What is the national public-signature database used for?
It is used to check the signatures, seals and stamps of public authorities. We verify whether the authority that issued your document is listed, which may facilitate processing.
